Singapore has 11th most expensive hotel, room service in the world

The Republic has dropped to 11th position in a cost comparison report of hotel room service items and a one night stay in a four-star hotel, according to the third annual TripIndex Room Service Report. It was in 9th position last year.

The annual report takes into account the cost of a club sandwich ordered through room service, the dry cleaning of one shirt as well as refreshments from the mini bar, together with the cost of the one night stay.

According to the study, in Singapore on average, a club sandwich will set travellers back S$25.91, a bottle of water is S$8.01, a mini bottle of vodka costs S$18.36, a can of cola is S$7.05, a packet of peanuts is S$6.70 and dry cleaning a shirt is S$16.96. With a night’s stay in a four-star hotel in Singapore costing an average of SS$264.35, the total average cost for Singapore amounts to S$347.34.

Other destinations in Southeast Asia include Jakarta (S$150.76); Kuala Lumpur (S$167.12), Hanoi and Bangkok (S$192.22) which placed 3rd, 6th, 8th and 12th respectively under four of the world’s best value destinations.

New York came in tops at S$580.51, with Zurich (S$492.68) and London (S$465.20) coming in second and third respectively.
